Considering that the driving force behind the
Internet's popularity in Pakistan is the student
community, it is a surprise that few attempts
are underway to cash in on the education market.
Websites like eTaleem and U2Test easily rise to
the top due to the distinctive nature of the
services they offer on the scant e-learning
scene - minus the presence of XYZ institutes and
schools online, mind you.
E-Taleem
E-Taleem offers several channels for
Pakistani surfers including Health, Kids,
Travel, Classifieds etc. E-Taleem shot to fame a
few months back when it started offering free
educational scholarships to visitors. The
education section offers information on location
of educational establishments, libraries,
careers and overseas education. The Study Abroad
section summarizes the English language
pre-requisites and a brief article on what to
keep in mind before considering your overseas
options. A highly useful feature is the
classified section for teachers.
Apna Future
Apnafuture was created late last year as a
starting point for Matric and Intermediate
students looking for study notes. The site has
since branched out into careers in IT and
education counseling as well. You can still find
the limited number of notes intact. From handy
tips on improving hand writing, oral
communication and wading through your homework
to boosting your IQ and cracking on exams, you
can find articles on a variety of topics in the
Education Resource Section.
Results
VnetServe made news last year when it posted
SSC results for 2000 online, making it the first
such effort. Does this mean we don't have to
rush to the nearest hawker for a supplement? Nor
entirely. The site is not updated regularly and
despite blessings from the Governor Sindh and
luminaries in education, its design speaks
volumes about the "state-of-the-art" condition
on the website. Wouldn't it be great if
VnetServe also establised contacts with the
federal board and offered results for students
in the entire country?
U2Test
IT-Track's brainchild
U2Test is a hit with ambitious students and
bored executives looking to upgrade their IT
skills. Pakistan's first online testing site,
U2Test offers dozens of tests including
Ecommerce concepts, HTML, VB, ASP, Coldfusion,
JSP etc. Students can also choose between basic
and advanced level depending on test
availability. Currently, the site only offers
testing services.
